Hurricane Dean Passes

St. Barths was spared from Hurricane Dean

Hurricane Dean Passes

The Blessing of the Sea at Lorient

The first major storm of the hurricane season, Dean, passed south of St. Barths.  Unfortunately it hit Martinique and St. Lucia.  We extend our best wishes to the residents there.  And our hopes and prayers go out to those on Jamaica.  After Dean passed through the Lesser Antilles, it rapidly intensified (due to warmer waters) and grew into a Category 4 hurricane.  It could grow into a Category 5 (the most dangerous) and cause severe damage.

Just last week, the waters were blessed here on St. Barths (see photo).  Let's hope this blessing holds throughout the entire season.

I took some photos of the effects of Dean that were felt on St. Barths.  Not much more than some wind, and occasional heavy rain.  See the photos here.
