Bastille Day, or "Fête Nationale" in France, is a long-standing French national holiday. In 1790, the first Fête de la Fédération was held, celebrating the storming of the Bastille a year earlier. The storming of the Bastille is seen by many as the end of the French Revolution and its constitutional monarchy. It wasn't until almost 100 years later that the 14th of July was officially chosen as Fête Nationale.
Today there will be grand parades in France, most notably on the Champs-Élysées in Paris. In St. Barths, there will be fireworks in the harbor of Gustavia at 9:00pm. See you there?
I'll be figuring out how to take good photos of fireworks with my camera, so look for the results later tonight.
